Manesar: The production at Manesar plant of car manufacturing giant Maruti Suzuki India Private Limited was adversely affected on Saturday as thousands of workers went on strike demanding the formation of workers’ union.

Workers blocked all the ways for the entry and exit of management members and staged a protest. Keeping in mind the exigencies of the situation, the management called police force, which even further deepened the chasm with the workers. 

About three thousand workers staged a dharna inside the premises of plant against the management and the production was stopped from 3.45 pm.

About seven hundred policemen were deployed at the unit gate to maintain the law and order. All the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) rushed to the Maruti plant to pacify the situation.

Police Commissioner of Gurgaon, SS Deswal said required police force has been stationed to maintain the law and order scenario.
Sources maintained that the dispute over the constitution of employees unions was being witnessed for past several days.

Workers demanded that alike the company’s Gorgaon plant, a union should be made in the Manesar unit also. The situation worsened as employees of A shift were invited inside the office and were made to sign a document. According to the employees they were not informed about the content of the document signed by them.

Though the management is trying to negotiate the issue with employees, but the discussions are yet to arrive on a solution.
Company management has maintained that there has been a slight misunderstanding on the issue, and efforts are underway to solve the queries. A senior executive of the company has denied the allegations of locking up staff members in the office.
