Jhargram: The principal of Jhargram Raj College, Kishore Kumar, Rai, was on Saturday assaulted by students during a scuffle between hostelites and members of a students union, the principal said.
   
The principal was assaulted when he tried to intervene in a heated exchange of words between the hostelites and the Trinamool Chatra Parishad (TMCP) in the college campus.
   
He was admitted to Jhargram district hospital with injuries on his cheek and eyes.
   
A police picket was posted and investigation was on, the police said.
   
Trouble was brewing aming the hostel inmates over lack of facilities in the hostel. Last month, they had submitted a memorandum to the principal and had also gheraoed him on the issue.
