Sarabjit Singh was an Indian prisoner who had spent 22 years in a Pakistan jail on espionage allegation.

Following the brutal killing of Sarabjit by his jail mates in Pakistan,  Subhash Ghai had announced his plan to make a movie upon his life.

"We could not find the right cast. Besides, the Indo-Pak relationship is at such a juncture that it wouldn't be right to do a film like that. I feel it just isn't the right time," said Ghai.

Earlier, media was buzzed of actress Sonakshi Sinha being approached by Ghai to play the character of Sarabjit's sister, Daljit Kaur.

On May 2, 2013, Sarabjit succumbed to head injuries he sustained when some Pakistani prisoners attacked him. He had been sentenced to death for alleged involvement in a string of bombings in 1990.
