Lucknow: Madarsas receiving grant from the UP government have come under scanner.  The government first declined any irregularities in this connection, but issued an order of enquiry when complainants threatened to file a PIL in this regard.

The state government is alleged to have bungled the making list of Madarsa for the grant. The government is said to have compromised the standards while putting Madarsas into the grant list last year.

Despite qualifying the standard, many of the Madarsas could make way for the grant list last year while some of them even did not have their own buildings but managed to get grant.

The mandatory for the grant was that Madrasas must be registered before 1998. The government said that there would be a seniority list of madarsa which got registered till 1998 and 100 of them would be earmarked for grant.

There were 243 Madarsas in the list. It was revealed that Madarsas which were supposed to be awarding the grant were not chosen on seniority basis. The UP government is at loss for words that why the norms of making the seniority list were violated. Also, why some of the madarsas which did not live up to the standards were included into the grant list?
