New Delhi: The Lokpal Bill has not only stirred an open battle against the government by Team Anna, it has also given the former a chance to try its hand at political gimmicks. By seeking public opinion on the bill via mail the Centre has only resorted to fulfill the impossible.

Even if Union Finance Minister has himself agreed to welcome all the suggestions, but reading and considering thousand of suggestions is a tedious work in itself.

More than 15,000 people have given their opinion on the Lokpal Bill through email which was created under the supervision of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee himself.

However, among all the suggestions an email, referring Anna Hazare as a communal, was sent to the government’s website.

The email also has a mention that as the country would never have a Muslim Prime Minister, the Muslim community as well as other backward communities should be kept at bay from the fight against corruption. Interestingly, the controversial mail finds a top position among the list of thousand mails.

The print out of the emails has been compiled into a file but no specific discussions have been held over the suggestions.

Department officials, on the condition of anonymity, said, “The task of monitoring the emails has been given to the surveillance section IV of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) whose half-dozen members are missing. Even though Mukherjee had instructed to put the suggestions on the website, the DoPT has so far put only 22 suggestions.”
