Patiala: Ruling out the early retirement of Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday asserted that till Punjab Chief Minister feels physically fit he will remain at the helm. (Agencies)
Sukhbir was replying to the scribes regarding senior Badal's recent gesture to handover the reins to him. He was speaking to media after installing Deepinder Singh Dhillon as chairman of district planning committee in Patiala.
Deputy CM said that SAD has appointed him (Badal) as the Chief Minister and till he remains fit he will continue at the post. "About next 10-15 years there will be no question to replace Badal," he asserted.
SAD President also evaded the question when the scribes asked him about any bigger role of Badal in the NDA. Asked about the BJP and NDA's choice of Narendra Modi as the next Prime Ministerial candidate, he said, it was premature to say something even though Modi has played tremendous role in Gujarat's development and scored hat-trick as the Chief Minister.
He said the SAD would emerge as winner in Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee elections held on Sunday. Its results will be declared on January 30. There are 51 seats in the religious body. "We will sweep the DSGMC elections despite pressure from Delhi and Central government led by Congress party," he said.
He alleged that Sheila Dikshit government has terrorized Sikh traders of Delhi and forced them to side with Parmajit Singh Sarna led Akali Dal. "They (Delhi government) have bluntly misused the police force, sales and income tax, weight and measures and all other departments to intimidate Sikhs traders not to vote SAD-Badal candidates in the gurudwara polls," he alleged.
He alleged that Harjit Singh, a Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) worker and a polling agent deputed at booth no 8 in Kabool Nagar locality under Paschim Vihar constituency, had died after he was manhandled by a group of people owing allegiance to Sarna. Asked about Moga by-poll, he said that SAD was united in Moga and will win the seat with a massive margin.
