Chandigarh: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday sought an early decision on opening a corridor from Indian side to Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.

He also sought a positive decision on handing over the management and control of Gurudwaras located in Pakistan to
Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), an apex body of Sikh Gurudwara management.

Badal made these requests when he called on Pakistan Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday at Lahore, an official release said in Chandigarh.

He requested that the sentiments of the Sikh community were inherently attached to Gurudwaras located in Pakistan and he should request his federal government to give free access to Sikhs to pay obeisance in them.

Raising the issue of corridor to Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib, Badal said that this historic Gurudwara of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was located on Pakistan side just 2km away from Indo-Pak border in Dera Baba Nanak sector.

He said the SGPC and Punjab government had been requesting the Union government and Pakistan to give a pilgrim corridor up to the Gurudwara so that Indian pilgrims could have uninterrupted access to the Gurudwara of the first Sikh Guru.
