Deoria: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has said that his party is supporting UPA government at the Centre only to ward off communal forces from acquiring power, but his party, SP, is prepared to face early Lok Sabha polls.
The Chief Minister was interacting with media persons On Wednesday, after meeting kin of his late cabinet colleague, Kameshwar Upadhyay, who died two days back. He said that his government was committed to improve the law and order situation in the state. He also added that several measures would be taken in this regard in near future.
Reply to another question, Akhilesh Yadav denied that he was anyway trying to shield Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid, who is embroiled in the controversy over alleged embezzlement of government funds in a trust, Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, run by the minister and his wife.
The Chief Minister said that Enforcement Directorate (ED) was looking into the matter and law would take its course.
He also said that some administrative officials, who are used to work in the lackadaisical fashion of previous BSP regime, would be spotted and punished. The Chief Minister also visited the residence of SP president of Kushinagar district, Ram Avadh Yadav, whose son was brutally murdered in Kanpur recently.
