New Delhi: In a major setback to the five mining companies in Jharkhand, the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the Jharkhand High Court order which had cancelled their mining lease license in the state.

In 2006, the former Shibu Soren govt had allotted to carry out their mining activities in the state to these five companies – Monnet Ispat, Jharkhand Ispat, Prakash Ispat, Adhunik Alloys and Ispat Industries -- and after that when Madhu Koda govt came to power, he cancelled the lease.

Thereafter, all the five companies moved the Jharkahnd HC and the HC upheld the cancellation of the lease. Seeing no ray of hope, the five companies approached the SC, which also turned down their plea.
