The woman underwent Cesarean and delivered a baby girl at the Government Hospital in Ariyalur on Jun 24 and was discharged after two days.

On returning home, she complained of stomach pain, indigestion and constipation. On August 17, the woman noticed a surgical glove in her stool and she was immediately taken to the PHC at nearby Sundakudi, where the doctors surgically removed the three gloves after 53 days, hospital sources said on Monday.

Officials said that an inquiry had been ordered into the negligence of the doctors, who performed the Cesarean at the government hospital.

The condition of the woman was stable and she would be discharged within a few days, they said.
