New Delhi: Majority of the young voters are expected to turn out at polling booths to vote in elections to the Delhi municipal bodies next Sunday, a survery has claimed.

Sixty-five per cent of youth in the city are expected to exercise their right of voting in the polls due to awareness created by State Election Commission, the survey conducted by Assocham (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India), claimed.

"Constant campaigns to inform and raise awareness amid people about their right and importance of their vote by the State Election Commission and Election Commission of India seems to have a significant impression on young Indian middle class," D S Rawat, Secretary General of Assocham, said.

He said social networking sites have played an important role in creating awareness amid youth population.

Most of the respondents are constantly checking to make a decision about whom to vote for through texts, e-mails and social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and others, the survey claimed.

Area wise, the survey claimed, youths in east Delhi were seen more enthusiastic about the elections and they are well- informed compared to other localities of the capital. The sample size for the survey was 600.
