Patna: Hailing Rajnath Singh's election as the BJP president, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday said he was confident that under the former's leadership, the saffron party would win the 2014 general elections.

"Singh had political experience spanning decades that would be useful in NDA's bid for power in the next general election," Modi told reporters in Patna.

"The BJP would also do well in Assembly polls in several states to be held later this year," Modi said. Another senior BJP leader and former state unit chief C P Thakur congratulated Singh and said that he would guide the party towards electoral success in the years to come.

Asked about the BJP's prime ministerial candidate for the next general elections, Thakur said that the central leadership would decide it through consensus and consultation with allies at an appropriate time.
