Shinde said at a press conference that he welcomed Gandhi's statement ‘where he (Rahul Gandhi) very rightly’ said that leadership (for the next government) will come from the youth.

"(It is) my desire that he becomes Prime Minister of this great country," Shinde said.

Rahul Gandhi had said at a rally in Rampur on Wednesday that a government of the youth, the poor and the common man would be formed after the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

"In 2014, it will be government of youth. It will change the country," he had said.

Gandhi's remarks were seen as an indication that he will lead the government if the Congress wins the next Lok Sabha polls and the party's young leaders would then get more prominence.
