New Delhi: Condoling the death of 23-year-old paramedical student who lost the battle for life after courageously fighting for nearly two weeks, Shusma Swaraj, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha demanded the amendment to laws related to the safety of women.

Addressing the BJP condolence meet at Jantar Mantar, Swaraj reiterated the party’s demand for Special Session of the Parliament to discuss anti-rape laws. The BJP leader also targeted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for neglecting their demands of convening Special Session.

"This year (in 2013), all laws related to women should be re-analysed. There should be the toughest punishment against crimes against women," the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said.

Swaraj alleged that the private bus owners were working in connivance with the police and that’s why they commit such heinous crime fearlessly. She added that after such incidents the accused become more daring.

Paying tribute to 23-year-old braveheart, who died in Singapore on Saturday after she was gang-raped and assaulted in a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, Shusma said that the BJP would abstain from New Year celebration in a bid to express solidarity for the victim’s family.
