Mumbai/Lahore: Bollywood diva Sushmita Sen and Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram rubbished reports suggesting that they are planning to tie the knot and asked the media to respect their privacy.

Earlier on Friday, some reports alleged that the duo is planning to get married after seeing each other for a couple of years.

But the 37-year-old actress took to micro-blogging site Twitter on Friday to clarify the news, saying she is just good friends with 46-year-old Akram.

"Hi guys! Been reading about my upcoming wedding with Wasim... Absolute Rubbish. Goes to show just how irresponsible media can be sometimes," she tweeted.

Her further wrote: "Wasim Akram is a friend and will always be one!! He has a wonderful lady in his life... Rumours like these are uncalled for and disrespectful."

The Bollywood beauty was rumoured to have dated the Kolkata Knight Riders coach for two years after meeting on the sets of dance reality show Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena in 2008. Sushmita and Wasim were the judges on the show.

The duo reportedly got closer to each other following the death of Akram’s wife Huma in October 2009. The duo was spotted together several times in the past, giving rise to speculations. Though the actress had frequently denied news of her relationship with the Pakistani cricketer, Sushmita in 2011 declared her fondness for Wasim.
Interestingly, last year in October when she was in Delhi, Sushmita made a very candid confession about her marriage, without revealing anything about her dream man. She even confirmed the wedding and said, “Yes, I do plan to get married next year. I think it is time. Ab Bahut wait karva liya sabko.”

The former Miss Universe, who is a single parent to two adopted daughters Renee and Alisah, also said she will disclose when she gets married.

"My beautiful people... when I find 'The One'... You'll be the first to know. Benefits of being my twitter family!!".

Akram wants to devote himself to children

Akram also denied the rumours saying he wants to devote himself to his children and is not planning to get married anytime soon.

"I am really fed up with these rumors and speculations made in the media. I decided to take a year off from the Indian Premier League because I wanted to give time to my two sons who are growing up and need their father close to them.

"Right now my entire focus is on spending quality time with them. There is no plan in my life now to get married," Wasim a widower, whose wife Huma died in October, 2009 said.

"I want to devote my life to my sons. I think the media and people should not only respect my privacy but also that of Sushmita who is a very graceful and decent lady and a fine human being," he added.

Interestingly, the Bollywood beauty has been linked up with series of men including directors Vikram Bhatt, Mudassar Aziz, Manav Menon and actor Randeep Hooda. She was also rumoured to be dating 23-year-old businessman Imtiaz Khatri.
