Haridwar: Swami Poornanand, another saint of Matri Sadan, started his fast unto death on Saturday to protest the delay on part of the Uttarakhand Government to recommend a CBI probe into the mysterious death of Swami Nigmanand on June 13.

Swami Nigmanand  died in June following about a four months fast to save river Ganga from pollution along with protesting illegal quarrying and mining in the river.

Addressing the Media on Saturday, founder of Matri Sadan, Swami Shivanand Sarswati confirmed the development. “It was already announced on July 15 that Swami Poornanad would observe the fast unto death from July 30 if the government does not order a CBI inquiry by July 29.”

“Swami Nigmanand has been poisoned. Administration and land mafia are responsible for his death,” Shivanand charged.

“State government is saying that a recommendation for CBI inquiry has been sent to the Centre, then why not the inquiry has started yet? The weak recommendation of the state government is causing the delay,” he added.

Swami Poornanad who also addressed the press conference said that he is observing the fast on his own.
