Varanasi: Noted environmentalist Swami Gyan Swarup Sanand has once again threatened to sit on fast-unto-death over the preservation of holy river Ganga if the National Ganga River Basin Authority meet slated for April 17 fails to take any action.

Swami alleged that he has not received any invitation for the meet adding, "Despite the Centre’s assurance for a strong action and to stop the construction work on hydel projects on the streams of Ganga, the work has not stopped.”

"If a decision does not come out in favour of Ganga River, I will again sit on fast before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh," Swami threatens.

Earlier on March 23, Swami had called off his 15-day long fast at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal gave him a written assurance on behalf of the Union government. The Centre in the written assurance had promised that it will look into measures for Ganga conservation, and will ensure its unimpeded flow and cleanliness.

Swami still remains on liquid diet.

On the other hand, convener of Ganga Seva Abiyanam Swami Avimukteshwaranad Saraswati said that they will take a decision on the issue if the government fails to assure of its course of action within 24 hours.
