Haridwar: Matri Sadan chairman Swami Shivanand Saraswati on Friday has started his fast unto death agitation seeking total ban on the mining in and around the holy river Ganga.

Shivanand said, “I am following the Sadhu Dharma. If my meditation is obstructed, the Chief Minister and the administration will be responsible for that.”

Shivanand told reporters the government has been furnishing wrong information regarding illegal mining in the river.

The seer said the Matri Sadan is ready to make any sacrifice for the protection of Ganga. The Matri Sadan will protect the Ganga as a tribute to Swami Nigamanand, he added.

He also alleged mining barons of killing Nigamanand. Responding to a question, Shivanand said, “I have no problem for any probe into my pre and post sanyas life.”

The Matri Sadan has also extended its support to the proposed agitation by Prof GD Agarwal from January 14.
