Ranchi: In what can bring smiles to the faces of the sweepers and maids working in Jharkhand, plans are afoot to bring them under the coverage area of the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY).

As per the scheme, the maids and sweeper by paying a premium of Rs 30 per annum can avail treatment worth Rs 30,000 in any of the government hospital for any disease, even without presenting their BPL card.

The hawkers will also be benefited under this scheme.

In this regard, Labour Commissioner Aradhana Patnaik has asked the departmental staff to submit the list which will be forwarded to the Union Government for approval.

In order to reap the benefits of the scheme, the maids or sweepers will have to take a work certificate signed by the people who have employed them. Thereafter, the work certificate will be submitted in the office of the concerned Labour Enforcement officer or at the Labour Superintendent's Office. These officials would later make a list of such applicants.

Meanwhile, the identification of the hawkers will be done by the Municipal corporations.

This year, the Union government has hinted at bringing people working in Bidi manufacturing units, MNERGA, masonry workers under the scheme.

Plans have been formulated to provide them smart cards.
