Jalalabad (Afghanistan): A suicide attack on an Army base in eastern Afghanistan killed four and wounded eight others on Saturday, officials told.

A Taliban group of Zabihullah Mujahid has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Afghan Army spokesman for eastern region, Mohammad Nooman Hatifi, said that the attacker detonated his explosives at an Afghan army base in the Gambiri area close to Jalalabad city, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province.

The attack came the day after the provincial police chief of Kandahar in southern Afghanistan was killed in a suicide bombing that was claimed by the Taliban.

There has been a recent spike of suicide bombings, a key Taliban tactic, in Afghanistan, with authorities reporting that the present one was the ninth in the last few days.
