Basit's comments came few hours after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooa Mufti blamed Pakistan for inciting Kashmiri youths for pelting stones. Mufti accused Pakistan for instigating unrest in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba told reporter after her meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi that youths in Kashmir were attacking security forces and police stations after being provoked by Pakistan.

"I want to tell Pakistan, if it has any sympathy for Kashmiris, it shouldn't provoke them to attack police stations - and save youth from being killed," the chief minister said.

"Ye baat purani ho gayee hai" (this is a thing of past) Basit said when he was asked about Dawood's homes in Pakistan. Recently, six of the nine places cited by India as addresses of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim in Pakistan have been found correct by a UN committee.

The Security Council's ISIL and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee amended its entry yesterday concerning Dawood, the mastermind behind the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, with "underline and strikethrough". In the amendment, the Committee has stricken through the address "Main Property at Margalla Raod F- 6/2 Street no.22, House No.07, Islamabad number 29 in Karachi.
