The Governor held fifth meeting of the state level monitoring cell to eradicate ragging which was attended by Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan, Chief Secretary Mohan Verghese Chunkath, Secretaries for Home and Higher Education, and DGP K Ramanujam.

The Governor, who is the chairman of the cell, appreciated the efforts of the authorities concerned in eradicating ragging and urged that the steps in this direction should continue, a Raj Bhavan release said.

"The Governor reiterated that there cannot be any laxity and the authorities should keep a constant vigil," it said.

He also asked that top priority be given to Supreme Court guidelines about registration of private commercially managed hostels which are outside the campuses of institutions.

The DGP informed that five cases had been registered this year, of which three cases took place in law colleges, and one each in Arts and Engineering colleges.

He said as on August 7 this year, 18 complaints had been received, "some of which could be bogus complaints."
