Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday sanctioned over Rs 30 crore towards procuring modern equipment for the fire and rescue services department.

This includes providing 1,980 personnel with modern gear, including gumboots, fireproof helmets and masks, a state government press release here said.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had approved a sum of Rs 28 crore in this regard, besides another Rs 5.97 crore towards procuring modern ladders reaching upto 54 metres to cater to high rise buildings in Chennai, it said.
