Speaking to media persons in Guwahati, Gaurav Gogoi said the party must stand united to win the upcoming by-elections.

The dissidence within party’s state unit cropped up after its leaders demanded resignation of Tarun Gogoi over poll debacle in the recently concluded general elections.

Health Minister Himanta Biswas Sarma and 33 other party MLAs had resigned, demanding a change of guard.

However, Gaurav added that those trying to damage party organisation will not be successful in their efforts.

He further said, “By-polls are going to be held in three assembly constituencies. We have to perform well in these elections. We know that the people of Assam expects more, so we have to work together in order to meet their expectations.”
