New Delhi: In order to ensure safety of women in the capital, all DTC buses and around 12,000 autos have been equipped with GPS devices while other public transports are expected to be equipped by April.

The decision was taken at the meeting of Special Task Force headed by Union Home Secretary RK Singh. The task force is meant to ensure safety of women in the national capital.

In a statement, the Home Ministry accepted that there are 4,627 notified bus stops in Delhi out of which only 1407 are properly lit. However, work is in progress at another 288 bus-stops which is expected to be completed by the end of February.
The remaining bus stops will be reconstructed with proper lighting facility in a time-bound manner.

The Task Force has also asked Delhi Police to verify all public vehicles and act tough against those vehicle owners found guilty of violating rules.

While reviewing helpline Number, Delhi Police said that it has increased the number of lines from 60 to 100.

The Task Force will also co-ordinate with Telecom Authorities so that the location of caller is available to the PCR van immediately. This measure will help the police to reach the caller much faster.
