Mumbai: Shares of Tata Global Beverages Ltd on Thursday surged over 5 percent after the company's consolidated net profit rose 54.69 percent for the second quarter ended September 30.

Boosted by the strong results, the shares opened on a robust note and further gained 5.39 percent to Rs 158.35 on the BSE.

At NSE, the stock rose by 5.56 percent to Rs 158.50.

Tata Global Beverages on Wednesday said its consolidated net profit rose by 54.69 percent to Rs 119.04 crore for the quarter ended September 30, on improved operating performance and robust sales in the coffee business.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs 76.95 crore during the corresponding period of previous fiscal.

Net sales of the company rose to Rs 1,842.57 crore during the second quarter, as against Rs 1,612.03 crore during the same period of 2011-12 fiscal.

Meanwhile, in the broader market, the BSE benchmark Sensex was trading at 18,510.48, up 5.10 points at 1139 hrs.
