Kishanganj (Bihar): Driven to poverty due to non-payment of salary dues for five months, a contractual teacher on Friday allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Bhaura village in Tedhaghat police station area in Bihar's Kishanganj district, police sources said.

Ashok Ram was found hanging in his rented house in the village, the sources said. A native of Siwan district, Ram took the extreme step after he was driven to penury for non-payment of salary for the past five months, sources said.

A medical prescription and Rs 100 were found from his room, they said. Ram was working as a contractual teacher in Bhaura panchayat school since 2006, sources said.
