New Delhi: Team Anna is back again to take on the UPA government but will the agitation by the anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare and his team turn into a national outrage like last year or will it be a flop show like the one happened in Maharashtra early this year.

In a bid to put pressure on the UPA government for introducing a strong Lokpal Bill, Team Anna members - Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai- launched their indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday.

The team leader and noted anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare will, however, join the fellow team members on the hunger strike from July 29 if the demands put before the government is not met within the four-day deadline.

Besides campaigning for a strong Lokpal Bill, the Team Anna is demanding the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe corruption charges against 15 cabinet ministers.

The Team Anna has set four-day deadline for the government for getting their three demands fulfilled. The three demands are:

•    An SIT probe against Ministers

•    Fast-track courts to speed up prosecution of 162 Lok Sabha and 39 Rajya Sabha members facing charges

•    SIT to go into allegations against party chiefs

Before reaching the protest venue, Hazare and his team members went to Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

As he arrived on the stage erected at Jantar Mantar, Hazare raised slogans like 'Inquilab Zindabad' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' as his supporters waved the tricolour.

On Tuesday, Hazare and his team spoke in different voices on the indefinite fast with the activist asserting that it is for Lokpal Bill while his aides said it is limited to their three demands.

The protest also came on a day when Pranab Mukherjee, against whom Team Anna had levelled allegations, took oath as President of the country.

Team Anna had termed as unfortunate his elevation without a probe into allegations against him. They said Constitution provides immunity to President from any investigation and it would have been better if a probe had cleared him.

Team Anna supporters gather in Jantar Mantar

Holding tricolours and raising anti-government slogans, supporters of Team Anna gathered at Jantar Mantar in the national capital  to garner support to the Team Anna in demand of stringent Jan Lokpal bill.

As Pranab Mukherjee was sworn-in as the country's 13th President, hundreds of people, including school children and retired government officials, assembled at Jantar Mantar to pledge their support for Anna Hazare and his cause.

A huge marquee has been put up at the venue and the podium area, where Team Anna members would be protesting.

Team Anna volunteers said they were expecting massive crowds. India Against Corruption (IAC) volunteers have divided themselves into various teams like crowd management, sanitation, health, media and guest management team and Anshankari team, said IAC media coordinator Aswathi Muralidharan.

Team Anna has got permission to fast at Jantar Mantar till August 8, the day the Monsoon Session of Parliament is expected to begin.

NSUI protests at Team Anna fast venue

Around 50 members of the Congress' youth wing NSUI on Wednesday staged a protest at Team Anna's fast venue Jantar Mantar, an anti-corruption activist said.

"Around 50 members of NSUI (National Student's Union of India) tried to enter the stage where Anna Hazare was sitting, but were stopped by volunteers. They were raising anti-Anna slogans," a member of team Anna said.
