New Delhi: The poor showing of the Congress party in the state made Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi scapegoat and the party organization is on the radar. But the million dollar question is that if the real blunderers responsible for the poll debacle will be questioned or not?

All the major decisions regarding the distribution of the tickets and making of poll strategy were undertaken on the instructions of Team Rahul and Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh.  Not only this, before the formation of party’s central election committee, Team Rahul member, Kanishka Singh, used to hand over a document bearing the names of ticket seekers to all the major leaders.

The document available with Dainik Jagran makes it clear that the Congress central election committee was left with little scope to discuss on the seats. The document contained a priority list of candidates for each seat with the best one mentioned at the top.

According to a survey conducted by a foreign agency, the report prepared by party observers along with other details left rare option for the central election committee to choose the ‘best candidate’ as mentioned in the list. The committee barely decided on very few candidates other than those mentioned in the list.

Moreover, Rahul Gandhi and Digvijay Singh had sent a 10-member team of observers to the state two years back for the selection of the winnable candidates. The observers had submitted a report in this regard to Team Rahul. It clearly mentioned about the ticket seekers for each seat along with the first priority of observers.

Although the election campaign committee was constituted for the poll preparations but the decisions were taken at 12, Taughlaq Road, the residence of Rahul Gandhi and Congress war room where Kanshik Singh was the sole decision maker in the party. Many union ministers and senior party leaders of the state were also directed by Team Rahul.

While ‘K-factor’ was dominant at Delhi with Kanishka Singh of Team Rahul taking the major decisions, similar was the case at Lucknow where CWG tainted Suresh Kalmadi’s close aides Tahseen and Shehzad Poonawala were performing their duties assigned by Digvijay Singh. Also, RP Tripathi was made in charge of VIP programs at Congress office at state capital.

Moreover, Congress legislative party leader, Pramod Tiwari’s daughter Aradhana Mishra was handling the entire media in UP. Ailing Congress president Sonia Gandhi's distance from UP poll preparations took a massive toll on the poll results as the political and non-political managers in the party took advantage of her absence. An eminent party leader said, “The coterie of Rahul sunk the party.”

Surprisingly, those presented as the best candidates by the central election committee managed to get only 2 percent votes while those termed as weaker candidates like Ajit Kumar Yadav and Anil Verma from Gunnaur received 25 to 30 percent votes.
