Rampur: Stepping up the political ante in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Assembly elections, the Congress has set its eye on the Muslim vote bank in the state. With an aim to repeat the party’s winning performance in last general elections, Congress scion Rahul Gandhi and his team are leaving no stone unturned to woo the Muslim voters.

Promoting the agenda of Gandhi, Union Minister of State for Communication Sachin Pilot assured the minority community of every possible help.

The party performance in western UP will play an important role in its return to power in the state. After forming alliance with the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) on the 45 seats in western UP, the Congress is striving hard to ensure the victory of party candidates on the rest of the seats. Significantly, western UP has about 125 assembly constituencies.

The Swar-Tanda is considered to be an important seat where party has fielded senior Congress leader Noor Bano’s son Nawab Kazim Ali Khan alias Naved Mian who has returned to the party recently after 9 long years.

The Congress believes that it can gain an edge over the SP and the BSP in Western UP by providing 4 percent reservation to the backward Muslims. Therefore, the party’s youth brigade was sent here to apprise the community of the advantages of this reservation.

Rahul himself will visit the region to ensure the victory of party candidates. Rahul’s visit also aims at restricting Samajwadi Party’s Muslim face Azam Khan only to Rampur. During the last general election his arch rival Jaya Prada defeated Noor Bano.
Union Minister for Culture, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Kumari Selija will also pay a visit here to campaign in favour of Naved.
