Dehradun: A teenager was killed and his elder brother seriously injured when the ceiling of their house collapsed over them following incessant rains at Kothing village in Uttarakhand's Bageshwar district.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night when the two brothers were asleep, officials at the Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre in Dehradun said.

17-year-old Ghanshyam died on the spot while his elder brother Deepak (21) was seriously injured. He has been admitted to a nearby hospital, they said.

Most parts of Uttarakhand have received light to medium intermittent rains in the last 24 hours. The Met department has predicted similar weather conditions across the region, especially in the high altitude areas of Kumaun and Garhwal plains, including Dehradun and Haridwar for the next 36 hours.
