Here, we enlist 10 major bills pending in the Parliament.

1. GST Bill: Officially known as the Constitution (122nd Amendment) Bill, 2014 proposes goods and services tax to be introduced in India.

2. Negotiable Instruments (Second Amendment) Ordinance, Arbitration and Conciliation Amendment Ordinance, and the Commercial Courts Ordinances: This year in September, Negotiable Instruments (Second Amendment) Ordinance was passed to clarify cheque bouncing cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Two more ordinances were proposed last month.

3. Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill, 2014:  This Bill seeks to treat offenders between the age of 16-18 years as adults in abominable crimes.

4. Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2012: Child Labour Amendment Bill proposes to prohibit employment of children below the age of 14 years in any occupation. The Bill also added a category named 'adolescent' who come under the age of 14-18 years and prohibits them from working in hazardous environment.

5. Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013: This amendment seeks stricter penalties  to corrupt government officials with a minimum of three years and maximum seven years of imprisonment.

6. Whistleblowers  (Amendment) Protection Bill, 2015: After the Vyapam scam and its suspected consequent deaths, a law to protect whistleblowers became necessary. The amendment seeks to add categories under which information may not be disclosed by the whistleblower.

7. The National Commission for Women Bill, 2015: This Bill proposes to repeal the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 and to “adequately protect the rights of women”.

8. High Courts (Alteration of Names) Bill, 2015: This Bill introduces alteration of High Court names to correspond to the cities they are located in.

9. High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill, 2015: The amendment looks forward to add ten years of Bar practice to qualify as High Court judges for purpose of calculating pension. Major revamp in leave allowances, salary of both High Court and Supreme Court judges.

10.Repealing and Amending (Fourth) Bill, 2015: It seeks changes to the Sexual Harassment of Women at the Work Place (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and the Governors (Emoluments, Allowances and Privileges) Amendment Act, 2014. The bill aims at  replacing obsolete laws.
