Jaipur: Ten prisoners escaped from a jail in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district after beating up six duty guards on Monday.

Three of the jail-breakers were later recaptured while others are still on the run, police said.

According to police, the escape occurred around 6 p.m. at a sub-jail in Bhim town in the district, some 300 km from Jaipur.

"There were 20 prisoners, undertrial as well as convicts, lodged in the jail. The guards were shifting these prisoners to the barracks from the outside area in the prison premises," said a police officer.

It was then that 10 of the prisoners suddenly attacked the guards, overpowered them and escaped in a planned manner, the officer said.

"These prisoners were serving terms for cases like robbery, rape and theft," said the officer.

When the jail authorities informed police, several teams were rushed to nearby areas to search for the escaped prisoners.

"We have detained three of them from hills situated near the prison. Intensive search for others have been launched," said the officer.
