Khagaria: A local court on Tuesday awarded capital punishment to ten convicts and life term imprisonment to four in the case of killing 16 farmers over a land dispute at Amausi in Khagaria district in 2009.

According to the prosecution, 16 farmers were shot dead over a land dispute by the convicts at Amausi village under Morekahi police station in the midnight of October 1, 2009.

A bench of Additional Sessions judge C B Dwivedi sentenced the death penalty and life term imprisonment to the convicts.

Lawyer Ram Pravesh Singh said “This is a heinous crime and a harsh sentence should be given to the offenders”.

In reply to the judgment of the court, defence lawyer Durgesh Prasad Singh said, “The accused are innocent. There is no evidence which can prove them guilty.” 

Those convicted are: Bodhan Sada, O P Mahato, Sikander, Sajjan Sada, Tarini, Sushil, Ladoo, Sanatan, Harilal, Ghuran Sada, Dilo Sada, Dilip, Umesh Mahato and Ram Sada
