Chandigarh: Expressing satisfaction over the progress of Rs 1,485-crore textile park coming up in Muktsar district in the state, Punjab's Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday said, it is likely to generate 1 lakh job opportunities on completion.

He reviewed the progress of Textile Park in a meeting with Industry and Commerce Minister Anil Joshi.

Badal said with the operationalisation of this park set up on 350 acres in Malwa area under the new textile park policy announced by the state government, major companies would come and procure denim from the denim manufacturing units that would be set up here.

Textile industry is labour intensive and with the completion of textile park in the Malwa area, there is possibility of generation of one lakh jobs.

The state government is hopeful the textile policy will help in optimum utilisation and value addition of the home produced cotton thereby adding to the state revenue.
