As Ganguly celebrates his 43rd birthday today, here are few interesting facts about him...

1. His parents gave him the nickname 'Maharaj' and Goeffrey Boycott gave Sourav the nickname 'The Prince of Calcutta'.

2. Sourav's father, Chandidas Ganguly, runs a flourishing printing business, the third largest in Asia.

3. Sourav's joint family home in Behala, a suburb in Southern Calcutta, has nearly 30 residing members with more than 45 rooms.

4. Sourav is right handed - he does everything with right handed, even bowls right handedly. His brother Snehashish was left-handed. Sourav held the bat left-handed so that he could then use his elder brother's cricket kit.

5. Sourav was a huge football fan in his childhood. But due to his brother he was enrolled into a cricket academy during his class 10 holidays.

6. Sourav replaced his elder brother Snehashish in the Bengal Ranji Trophy team.

7. Sourav is a deeply religious person and observes fast every Tuesday.

9. Kolkata has an apartment complex which is named after Sourav. It is called the ‘Sourav Housing Complex'.

10. A 1.5 km road in Rajarhat in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal is named after him. Name of the road is Sourav Ganguly Avenue.

11. Javagal Srinath came back from retirement thrice on Ganguly's insistence and each time he performed brilliantly except for the World Cup 2003 final.

12. Ganguly insisted Sehwag to open in Test cricket and rest is history.

13. Out of his 22 tons in ODIs, he has scored 18 outside India.

14. He scored 16 centuries in Tests and every time India won the match. A record which only a few cricketer has achieved.

15. He scored his first Test century on debut against England.
