The batch, with 1,581 men, 307 women, 25 children and 104 sadhus, left in a cavalcade of 66 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp at 5:05 AM today, a police official said.
The convoy for the yatra has already crossed Tamatar Morh on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and would reach its destination at Baltal and Pahalgam base camps by this evening, he added.
With today's batch, as many as 4,822 pilgrims have so far left from Jammu base camp for Amarnath shrine.

The cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure that waxes and wanes with the phases of the Moon. Devotees believe that the ice stalagmite structure called the 'Lingam' symbolises mythical powers of Lord Shiva.
