Beijing: A minning capsule collapse in China's Shandong province killed 13 people, a media report said.

The accident took place at the Shimen Iron Ore Mine in Lucheng township, Cangshan county of the city of Linyi when miners were working in the pit, officials of the provincial safety supervisory department said.

Thirteen people were confirmed dead, the report said.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. Accidents are common in China's mining industry.

The privately-run Shimen Iron Ore Mine was once owned by the Jinan Iron and Steel Group.
