Moscow: A major fire broke out at an ordnance depot in central Russia, after which more than 6,500 people from nearby areas had to be evacuated. One person was also killed in the incident.

The incident took place in Chapayevsk town of Samara Region, 1000 km from southeast Moscow, on Tuesday night. Shells continued to fly all over the place many kilometers away till Wednesday evening.

It was estimated that up to 1.8 crore shells were stored in the ordnance depot.

According to the Ministry looking into the affair, the deceased person was an employee of a gas company. He was working near the ordnance depot during the time of the incident.
