Lucknow: Three persons were arrested on Friday on charges of threatening a Samajwadi Party MLA and demanding money from him, police said on Saturday.
They were arrested in Ambedkarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh following a complaint by Tanda MLA Azimul Haq Pahelwan, they said.
In a complaint to police on Friday, the MLA said he had received threatening calls from some persons on his mobile demanding "rangdari" (protection money) from him, police said.
The callers also abused and threatened him, the lawmaker alleged in the complaint.
Through surveillance, the callers were traced and arrested and the mobile phones used by the trio were seized, police said.
