Etawah: The Ram Navami celebrations turned bloody in Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s native district Etawah killing 3 persons on Sunday. The police claimed that three persons were killed and 35 sustained injuries, including several cops, when two groups of devotees clashed following a dispute over offering prayers at the ancient Brahmani Devi Mandirin Balrai area in Etawah.

The police further claimed that the bullets were fired even towards police and provincial armed constabulary (PAC) personnel which compelled the cops to open fire to disperse the crowd in retaliation.

Out of three deceased, two have been identified as Munna Lal Yadav (30) and Girind Singh Yadav (30). Locals alleged that they were killed in police firing. Soon after the administration came to know about the incident, senior administrative and police officers rushed to the spot.

Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav has announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia amount for the kith and kin of the deceased. State Principal Home Secretary RM Srivastava informed that the state government has announced Rs 50,000 assistance for critically injured people and Rs 20,000 to people who suffered minor injuries.

According to sources, the State CM  has asked the police administration to look into the matter thoroughly and bring culprits to book. The state government may order a CB-CID probe into the incident.

BJP demands high-level probe

Demanding a high-level probe into the incident, the BJP has asked the state government to increase the ex-gratia amount to Rs 10 lakh. A delegation of BJP leaders is likely to visit the incident site on Monday.
