Srinagar: Three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were on Wednesday killed in an encounter with security forces in Handwara area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district, police said.
"Three Lashkar militants have been killed in an encounter in Handwara area," a police spokesman said without giving any further details.
Sources said security forces lauched an anti-militancy operation in Laribal-Peer Mohalla near Rajwar forests, 100 kms from here, following information about presence of militants in the area.
As the security forces were closing in on the militant hideout, the ultras opened firing. The security forces retaliated, triggering a fierce gunbattle, the sources said.
They said the operation in progress when reports last came in.
