New Delhi: In the wake of protest against the visit of the Chinese President Hu Jintao later this week, a young Tibetan activist attempted self-immolation and is battling for life in a Delhi Hospital.

Jamyang Yeshi (26) poured some fuel and set himself on fire in the compound of JD (U) Party office here and then ran into a crowd where he fell down, police said.

Protesters doused the flames with Tibetan flags and Yeshi who had suffered 80 percent burn injuries, was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where doctors said he had suffered serious burn injuries.

Yeshi escaped from Tibet in 2006 and had been living in New Delhi for the past six years, Tibetan activists said.

Hu Jintao is arriving in New Delhi on Thursday to attend a summit of the BRIC nations- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

This ongoing agitation has till date claimed 22 lives.
