New Delhi: Presently Tihar jail has become the abode of some of the most high-profile personalities of the country with more than two dozen VVIP undertrials currently lodged in the jail.

The total list of such inmates includes 18 accused in the 2G spectrum case and Commonwealth Games (CWG) scam. 13 out of 18 VVIP inmates are the accused of 2G spectrum including former Telecom Minister A Raja who is in jail number one in Tihar. Several corporate executives and businessmen linked with this scam are also in same jail.

Former Telecom Secretary Siddhartha Behura, Raja’s close aide RK Chandolia, Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Balwa, his brother Asif Balwa, Rajiv B Agarwal of Kusegaon Realty, senior vice president of Reliance Telecom Surendra Pipara and ADAG Group MD Gautam Doshi are also lodged in Jail number one.

Other accused in the 2G spectrum scam include ADAG Group President Hari Nayar, Managing Director of Unitech Sanjay Chandra and Swan Telecom director Vinod Goenka, who are lodged in jail number three.

Now, even former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar have also made their way inside Tihar jail after a CBI court dismissed their bail plea rejection on Friday.

With the unearthing of the CWG scam Suresh Kalmadi, Surjit Lal, AB Prasad, former CWG secretary Lalit Bhanot and former Director General VK Verma have also been lodged in jail number four.

Other high profile inmates include Manu Sharma, Vikash Yadav, RK Sharma, Madhuri Gupta, Sharda Jain and cricketer Jacob Martin.

However, the Tihar jail administration has been quick to mention that no undertrial has a VIP status inside the jail premises. But the jail authorities did not fail to mention that they were high-profile undertrials who are under vigilant watch of the jail administration.
