Here is a timeline for major train mishaps occurred across the country.

June 25, 2014: At least four people were killed and nine injured when Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express derailed in Bihar.

May 26, 2014: At least 22 people were killed when Gorakhdham Express rammed into a stationary freight train in Sant Kabir Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh. The accident took place when the express train came on the same track as the freight train near Churen Railway Station.

May 04, 2014: At least 18 people were killed and 124 injured after the engine and six bogies of a passenger train derailed in the Konkan Railway route in Raigad district of Maharashtra. The Diva-Sawantwadi passenger train, which left Diva at around 7:30 am, derailed shortly after crossing the Bhise Khind tunnel at around 9:30 am killing 18 passengers.

February 17, 2014: Three passengers were killed and 37 others injured when ten coaches of a train derailed at Ghoti near Igatpuri in Nashik district. The mishap took place at around 6.20 am when 12618 Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Lakshadweep Mangala Express train was passing through the Ghoti-Igatpuri section, about 35 kms from Nashik.

January 08, 2014: Four persons were charred and five died due to suffocation after three sleeper coaches S2, S3 and S4 of the Bandra Dehradun Express were gutted in fire. The incident occurred between Dahanu Road and Gholvad station near Surat. While the cause of the fire was yet to ascertained, senior railway officers ruled out short circuit.

December 28, 2013: Twenty six people, including two children, were killed and 12 others injured when a fire broke out in the AC 3-tier B-1 coach of the Bangalore-Nanded Express train at Kothacheruvu near Puttaparthi in Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh.

June 30, 2012: Thirty-five passengers were killed and 25 were injured when a coach of the Delhi-Chennai Tamil Nadu Express caught fire near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh.

May 22, 2012: Twenty-five people were killed when the Banglore-bound Hampi Express collided with a stationary goods train in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district.

November 22, 2011: Seven people were burnt to death when the Howrah-Dehradun express caught fire in Giridih in Jharkhand.

May 28, 2010: At least 148 people were killed as the Gyaneshwari Express was derailed by Naxals in West Bengal West Midnapore district.

November 1, 2009: Gorakhpur-Ayodhya passenger train hit a truck at unmanned level crossing near Tikri station, killing 18 people.

October 21, 2009: 23 persons were killed when Goa Express hit Mewad Express from behind near Mathura station killing 23.

April 28, 2009: Tanakpur-Kasganj passenger train hit a bus at an unmanned level crossing near Ghatpuri station killing 11 people.

February 22, 2009:
A local passenger-train hit a Bolero in an unmanned level crossing near Barapalli station killing 15 people.

January 25, 2009: Kanpur-Allahabad train rammed a truck near Unchahar station killing 12 people.

December 1, 2006: A portion of a 150-year-old bridge collapsed over a passing train in Bihar's Bhagalpur district, killing 35 and injuring 17.

June 16, 2004: Mumbai-bound Matsyagandha Express goes off the tracks while crossing a bridge in Maharashtra's Raigarh district, nearly 150 km from Mumbai, killing 20 people and injuring over 60.

July 2, 2003: At least 22 passengers and motorists were killed in a bizarre but ghastly accident in Andhra Pradesh when the engine and two coaches of a train fell off a bridge crushing vehicles passing underneath.

June 22, 2003: Fifty-three people were killed and 25 were injured in the first major accident on the Konkan Railway when the engine and three coaches of the Karwar-Mumbai Central Holiday Special train derailed after crossing Vaibhavwadi station in Maharashtra.

May 15, 2003: A burst stove in the Mumbai-Amritsar Golden Temple Express (Frontier Mail) near Ludhiana in Punjab led to a major fire, killing 40 people and injured more than 50.

September 10, 2002: 120 people were killed when the Kolkata-New Delhi Rajdhani Express derailed over a bridge in Bihar.

June 4, 2002: Thirty-four killed when the the Mathura-Kasganj Express crashed into a bus at an unmanned rail crossing near Medu railway station in Hathras.

May 12, 2002: Twelve people were killed when the New Delhi-Patna Shramjeevi Express derailed while passing over a bridge in Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh.

June 22, 2001: Nearly 40 people were killed when the Mangalore-Chennai Mail tumbled into the Kadalundi river near Kozhikode in Kerala.

December 3, 2000: Forty-six people were killed and over 130 injured when the Howrah-Amritsar Mail rammed into a derailed goods train between Sarai Banjara and Sadhugarh in Punjab.

August 1995: Over 250 people were killed when Purushottam Express and Kalindi Express collided near Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh.


Timeline for train mishap in Bihar

25 June, 2014: 12 coaches of the Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express derailed in Chapra. While the exact cause of the mishap is yet to be determined, sabotage by Maoists is being suspected.

19 August, 2013: The Dharma Ghat train accident took lives of 37 people in Khagaria district. Though the driver applied emergency brakes, the Saharsa-Patna Rajyarani Express ran over 37 pilgrims, who were on the track.

25 May, 2010: The Rajdhani Express travelling from Delhi to Guwahati derailed in Naugachia injuring 11 passengers. The mishap took place when the driver heard a loud explosion nearby, and abruptly applied emergency brakes.

1 December, 2006: 35 people were killed and 17 were injured when a deconstructed portion of the 150-year-old 'Ulta Pul' bridge in Bhagalpur in the Ganges, fell over a passing train.

9 September, 2002: Over 130 people were killed when Howrah-Delhi Rajdhani Express derailed and plunged into Dhave River. The mishap occurred due to sabotage by the Naxalites.

16 July, 1993: 60 people were killed in a train disaster in Darbhanga district.

25 June, 1990: A train accident killed 60 people in Mangra town, Daltongunj where a goods train crashed into a passenger train.

1 November, 1988: Udyan Abha Toofan Express derailed, killing 48 people in Sakaldiha.

6 August, 1986: Another case of collision was witnessed in the state when an express train collided with a stationary goods train in Palamau district, where two coaches fell into a stream killing 52 people and leaving 35 injured.

10 March, 1986: Collision of two trains in Khagaria, killed 50 people and injured 200 others.

6 June, 1981: More than 600 passengers were killed when the driver applied brake abruptly to avoid hitting a cow.

6 June, 1981: A train between Mansi and Saharsa derailed while on a bridge and plunged into the Bagmati River, carrying over 800 passengers. While 250 bodies were traced, rests were never found.

8 March, 1961: 11killed and 37 injured due to collision of a passenger and freight train between Kalihar and Bihar.

7 May, 1950: 81 people were killed and 100 others injured when a train derailed from its tracks while on a bridge in Bihar.

Timeline for Rajdhani Express mishap
