New Delhi (JPN/ Bureau): Union Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath on Monday said she would undertake a trip to Uttar Pradesh to find out the reality behind the increasing cases of violence and harassment against women in the state.

National Women’s Commission (NCW) is already probing a few cases.

Tirath said the condition of Dalit women had deteriorated in the state. Her ministry will get a report on this issue in a day or two.

After a spurt in incidents of violence and molestation against women in UP, Tirath had ordered the NCW to tour the state and file a report on the condition prevalent.

A team from the Commission toured the state and only after it submits its findings will Tirath also visit UP. She will complete the tour before the Budget session of Parliament begins.

Tirath remarked the ‘jungle raj’ in UP had worried her a lot. She added that this was not a question of Centre or State. Everyone would have to come forward and root out the mentality leading to such crimes against women, she added.

Fear of law would have to be set in the people to prevent such cases, Tirath said.
