New Delhi: Trinamool Congress parliamentary party leader in the Lok Sabha Sudip Bandyopadhyay said that the party wants to go solo in the next General elections.

The TMC leader termed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the most honest leader in the country adding that people are eager to see such person as the Prime Minister of India.

Bandyopadhyay said, “The countrymen want honest Prime Minister. In the present scenario, Mamata Banerjee tops the list of honest leaders.” After extending support to the UPA candidate Hamid Ansari in Vice-Presidential election, the TMC leader’s statement has created ripple in the political corridor.

Despite having known that this formula is not feasible in the present time, the TMC leader raised the issue to bolster the party’s chance to play a bigger at the Centre. It is possible that Mamata Banerjee’s name might be proposed for Prime Minister’s post after the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Interestingly, if the names of Nitish Kumar and Narendra Modi can be proposed for Prime Minister’s post, why will Banerjee be out of race?

Reacting to Bandyopadhyay’s comment, WB state Congress President Pradip Bhattacharya said, “I welcome the TMC leader’s announcement for contesting on all 42 seats in the state on its own”
