New Delhi: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has started a token system in order to end woes of patients standing in long queues for getting Out Patient Department (OPD) cards.

According to Medical Superintendent Dr DK Sharma, patients will be given a token number from the counter. “First, patients will be given token number. The patients having token number will get OPD cards. When a screen at counter displays the number, the patients will get registration card.”

The recently rebuilt Rajkumari Amrit Kaur OPD of AIIMS will have six counters. OPD cards will be made under the computerised system in a series.

Dr Sharma said that earlier, time was wasted in writing names and addresses of the patients. “It used to cause a lot of problems for patients and sometimes they used to resort to unfair means for registration. But, through this system, nobody will be able to do so.”

According to sources in the hospital, the system will stop the illegal way of making OPD cards. Around 10, 000 patients are expected to benefit from the system.
