As India gears up for another warship, here are the top five warships in the world that you should know about

1. Nimitz Class (USA)

The aircraft carriers of the Nimitz Class are the largest warships currently in the world. With the use of nuclear power, the ships are capable to operate for over 20 years without refueling and have a  service life of 50 years. The warship can operate 85 to 90 aircraft, more than any other carrier in the world. The warship costs around $ 4.5 billion, making it the most expensive warship at present.

2. Admiral Kuznetsov (Russia)
A flagship of the Russian Navy, Admiral Kuznetsov is an aircraftcruiser that carries heavy offensive -defensive weaponary. It was built by the Black Sea Shipyard, the sole manufacturer of Soviet aircraft carriers and at present, is the only remaining ship of this class. The Admiral Kuznetsov can operate 30 fixed wing aircraft and a dozen helicopters. The warship costs around $ 2.4 billion.

3. Modified- Admiral Kuznetsov Class (China)

After China bought Admiral Kuznetsov  Class, it was launched on December 4, 1988 and was renamed Varyag in 1990. Later it was completely rebuilt and undergoing sea trials, the ship was commissioned as PLAN Liaoning on September 25, 2012.

4. INS Vikramaditya
The INS Vikramaditya began its life as the Baku in the Soviet Navy in 1987. India bought Baku for $ 2.35 billion and as part of the deal, Russia agreed to modify the warship according to Indian Navy needs and equip it with Russian aircraft. In 2013, the carrier was commissioned into the Indian Navy as the INS Vikarmaditya with the capability to operate 36 aircrafts.

5. Sao Paulo (Brazil)
Brazilian Modified-Clemenceau Class was born out of the French Clemenceau class aircraft carrier, the Brazilian navy bought it in 2000for US $ 12 million. It was renamed after the city Sao Paulo. After modifications and renovations, the ship can now carry 39 aircraft.
