New Delhi: As time passes, we drift closer to western culture, changing Indian lifestyle considerably. The tempest of westernization has ruffled up even celebration of festival, songs and expression of patriotic feelings. Be it tricolour nail paints, tricolour dishes, tricolour cloths, tricolour themes for I-Day celebration or tircolour accessories, modern youths try out everything to make their I-Day fashionable and trendy, but when it comes to patriotic numbers the golden era filmy songs still have same charm that goads youngsters’ emotions .

Several movies have been produced to conjure up just the right amount of emotion and patriotism. Anyone who understands the recent history of India knows a movie is not enough to capture that emotion and patriotism; you also need some soothing, melancholic melodies from films such as ‘The Legend of Bhaghat Singh’, ‘Swades’, ‘Rang De Basanti ‘and ‘1942: A Love Story’. Even though many of us live thousands of miles away from the country, we don the same colour of patriotism when these songs are played up, reviving the memory of great sacrifices made by sons of Indian soil to free the country from British rule.

Who can forget ‘Apni azaadi ko hum hargis mita sakte nahi….’ Sung by Mohd. Rafi and composed by Naushad, its first para is enough to remind us our freedom fighters’ struggle.

You feel proud to be an Indian when you hear song ‘Jahaan Daal Daal Par Sone ki Chidiya karti hai basera, Woh Bharat Desh hai Mera’ sung by Mohd. Rafi, Composed by Hansraj Behl.
